I didnt not click this photograph. I don't know who clicked this. I found it in an online friends network site of my friend Amit Mahapatra, who had some collection of similar photographs. This is often in seen major cities and towns in India. Child labor is wide. There are kids who work like this to support their families.
I know of another kid back in my native place who works in a cheap, very dirty hotel as a cleaner for a daily wage and helps his brother who is studying in a big school in the town. My town is a small one which is 3-4 km of radius. Every other evening when I was going for a ride in my bicycle,I used to give him lift on my bicycle to his village which is a few Km away from my town. On the ride, I used to ask him about his daily routine and how he supports his family with that job. Often I ask him to give up the job and start going to school which he denies because his brother has to study and his mother is a widow. He lost his father a couple of years ago.
After a few months, I went to my native place, when I met the same kid elsewhere in my town. By then, he changed his job. Now he is working in a bar as a cleaner.
The above photograph is not his. The owner of this photo is unknown to me yet. I will let u know as and when I come to know of the owner of the photograph.
I really felt very sad for the kid in the above photograph when I first saw it. Even now whenever I pass by this image , my heart sinks.
I was speechless when I came to know that Mr. Denis Peterson featured this image of Balu (Balu means Kid in many Indian languages) in his journal juxtaposing with his work 'Vortex of Despair' My sincere thanks to him.
I read somewhere -
Less than one per cent of what the world spent every year on weapons was needed to put every child into school by the year 2000 and yet it didn't happen.
And on the other hand, in a world different from the one of 'Balu' as observed by Kanner, who is based at the Wright Institute, a graduate psychology school in Berkeley, Calif.
"In my practice I see kids becoming incredibly consumerist. The most stark example is when I ask them what they want to do when they grow up. They all say they want to make money. When they talk about their friends, they talk about the clothes they wear, the designer labels they wear, not the person's human qualities."
wow! dats all I have to say..I mean actually makes yu think abt a lot..awesome man...

we lived in Chennai, India, and yes, saw a lot of these similar cases. It's a very sad sight but i think not to offend any religion, in India, if you're born poor, you'll die poor (and similar to the rich ones)

Thank you very much Sir! I think the link to Amit's album is accessible only if you have an active Orkut account(Orkut is an free online friends network site). However, I took all the snaps from his album, and placed them in my blog [link] with his permission. He collected these from random websites in Google search, as he said and hence could not figure out who actually took the snaps . However, I will be on the look out of the owner. Fearing any copyrights around the rest of the images I did not post them. Please have a look at them.
